Glasgow - Local Area Information
Glasgow is on the River Clyde in Scotland's west central lowlands, and is the country's largest city, as well as the third most densely populated in Great Britain. The city began its existence as the Bishopric of Glasgow in medieval times, and became prominent in the 18th century. Only two major medieval landmarks remain, the 13th century St. Mungo's Cathedral and the 15th century Provand's Lordship, whilst the bulk of Glasgow's architecture now dates from the Victorian era, most notable of these being the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, the Glasgow City Chambers and the University of Glasgow's main edifice.
